Itinerary Details

Day 1 – Arrive Buenos Aires

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. After check-in, you’ll have time to get settled in and relax. In the evening, join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner.

Note: If you wish to spend more time in Buenos Aires, ask your Personal Vacation Manager about the optional hotel extension—which will add one night to your Buenos Aires hotel stay.

Day 2 – Buenos Aires

This morning, get acquainted with Buenos Aires during a tour highlighting the city’s major neighborhoods and attractions. Among the points of interest, you will see are the Plaza de Mayo, this main square is surrounded by the Casa Rosada (Presidential Office), the Cabildo (Colonial Town Hall) and the Cathedral. You will drive through the charming streets of San Telmo, the oldest neighborhood (barrio) in Buenos Aries, dotted with old churches, antique shops and colonial buildings. You will also drive along the colorful roads of La Boca famous for its multicolor tin houses, European flavor and many tango performers.

This afternoon, you are invited to discover Argentina culture through a hands-on cooking class, learning traditional dishes with fresh, local ingredients. The class begins with the basic ingredients of Argentine food: onion, red pepper, salt, paprika and ground pepper. The chef will then demonstrate cooking tricks, share snippets of Argentine history and encourage you to partake in the cooking experience. After watching the chef demonstrate, each of you will have the opportunity to fold empanadas. At the end, we will settle at the table to enjoy the fruits of our labor!

Day 3 – Buenos Aires to Iguazu Falls

Depart for your flight to Iguazu Falls. Upon arrival, we will cross the border into Brazil to explore the falls from the Brazilian side. 80% of the waterfalls are on the Argentinian side. Therefore, visiting the Argentinian side offers more opportunities to get up close to the waterfalls, while the Brazilian side offers more panoramic views of the entire falls landscape. We will take an elevator down to the base of the waterfalls and stop right above the river level, then go up to the Salto Floreano viewpoint. Afterwards, from a 1,000-yard footbridge, you will be able to admire a panoramic view of majestic Iguazu Falls. Upon conclusion of the tour, we will cross back over the border into Argentina and arrive at the hotel, Loi Suites, in Puerto Iguazu. Just a 10-minute drive from the center of town, the Loi Suites surprises in a lot of ways. With its jungle location, surrounded on all sides by forest and set right on the river’s edge, there is no way that you would think it to be so close to town. As you enter the main atrium, you are immediately struck with a sense of space and of understated elegance. This area looks out to the interconnecting pool area below and out into the tall trees of the indigenous forest. From here it is a walk across log bridges that run through the canopy to each of the room blocks. Enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Day 4 – Iguazu Falls

After breakfast, depart on a full-day tour to the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls for close-up views of the Iguazu River. The lower and upper walkways allow for comprehensive views of the thundering falls. Walk along the trails that make their way through the 210-square-mile (543-square-km) reserve and enjoy the various aerial and panoramic views of the falls. After lunch, embark on a boat that takes you to the base of Iguazu Falls, allowing you to experience the power from below! Enjoy a final night in the forest at your hotel.

Please see our Physical Activity section to review the medical and mobility restrictions involving today’s tour.

Day 5 – Iguazu Falls to Buenos Aires

Enjoy a leisurely morning at the hotel, then transfer to the airport for your flight back to Buenos Aires. Check-in to the hotel where you will have some free time to relax and freshen up before the evening activity–a Tango show! We will enjoy an unforgettable night, surrendering to the magic of this “city that never sleeps” and to the charm of the sanguine music. A typical, early 20th-century house is an ideal stage for such a unique show: 15 artists, a tango orchestra, a folk music group, dancers and a singer. While enjoying the show, you’ll be treated to a traditional Argentine meal.

Day 6 – Buenos Aires

This morning we will depart early and take a ferry across the river to Uruguay, where we will visit the charming town of Colonia del Sacramento, commonly referred to as Colonia and its nearby wine region. Situated on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata, Colonia is renowned for its well-preserved historic quarter, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded by the Portuguese in 1680, it was a significant outpost for both the Portuguese and the Spanish during the colonial era, which resulted in a unique blend of architectural styles. Its cobblestone streets, colonial architecture and relaxed atmosphere make it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. We will enjoy a walking tour of the historic neighborhood, then head to a local winery for a tasting and lunch.

The winery is located on a 120-hectare property, with native fauna and flora throughout. Our visit begins with a tour of the vineyards and olive groves. We will then continue with our expert guide to the area of the high-tech mill for an informative tour and tasting of wine and olive oils, accompanied by regional cheeses, olives and toast. Lunch will then be served in the farmhouse, where a spread of regional barbecue meats, seasonal salads and roasted vegetables will be presented. We will then indulge in a homemade dessert before heading back to Buenos Aires.

Day 7 – Buenos Aires

Depart the city in a comfortable coach for a scenic ride through the Argentine pampas (plains) to an estancia (ranch), for a day of gaucho (cowboy) fun! The wild smell of the countryside will lead us away from the city and invite us to experience the region’s rural traditions. We will spend the day on a local ranch, where the owners will give us a tour of the estate and introduce you to their horses. Built in the 19th century, the property is a colonial-style estancia with a large fireplace and over 200 acres of land. For lunch, we will enjoy a delicious outdoor barbeque as well as other local snacks. The estancia also offers live music and dancing, plus you may see some gaucho skills in action, including horse racing. This is truly an unforgettable way to end your pre-cruise land tour-by simply enjoying life as the locals do!

Day 8 – Buenos Aires Embarkation

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to the port, where you will board the Celebrity Equinox for a 14-night cruise to Antarctica.

Day 9–20 – Cruising onboard the Celebrity Equinox

Ports of call include Ushuaia and Puerto Madryn, Argentina; Cape Horn, Chile (Cruising); Gerlache Strait, Paradise Bay, Schollart Channel and Elephant Island, Antarctica (Cruising); and Port Stanley, Falkland Islands

Day 21 – Montevideo Shore Excursion

After breakfast on board, set off with your local guide on the most exclusive Shore Excursion in Montevideo. Begin with an orientation tour of the city. You will see Independence Square, Parliament, L Carreta Monument, Downtown, Pocitos and Parque Battle Park neighborhoods and the city coastline. You will then drive to the district of Cuchilla Pereira called “The Wine Land”. Here you will visit a bodega (wine shop) founded in 1898, where you will be part of an unforgettable experience. You will visit the wine cellar which dates to the 1800s and browse through the old machinery museum.

Along the way, you will enjoy a performance that recreates the era in which the milonga emerged in the Rio de la Plata. Argentinians, intrigued by the dance, borrowed several characteristics of it, added their own attitude and style and called it the Tango. Dancers and Singers will make you feel like you are being transported back in time and that are part of the Uruguayan history of the late 1800s. To enhance the experience, you will enjoy the best national wines and delicious wines should make for a memorable experience. From here, return to your ship with a new-found appreciation for Montevideo and Uruguay.

Day 22 – Buenos Aires Disembarkation

Enjoy breakfast onboard, then disembark the Celebrity Equinox. For those that have air booked by Enrichment Journeys, enjoy a transfer tour of the Colon Theater and lunch included before arriving at the airport for your evening flight home. (L)

Note: If you wish to spend more time in Buenos Aires, ask your Personal Vacation Manager about the optional hotel extension—which will add one night your Buenos Aires hotel stay. Or ask about the three night Mendoza extension to explore this South American wine region.

For meals not included in your land programs, all hotels chosen include a restaurant on property where you may relax and enjoy a meal. In addition, your guide is available to make suggestions on nearby dining, shopping or sightseeing.

More Information

What to Know Before You Go

Physical Activity

The land portion of the trip should be considered active and includes a considerable amount of walking.

Enrichment Journeys will do everything in our power to ensure comfort through our third-party providers, including air-conditioned buses and comfortable accommodations where applicable. However, some areas cannot be accessed by coach, so our drivers will get you as close to sites as is legally allowed. Sensible, rubber-soled walking shoes are strongly recommended. Historical sites often do not have elevators, escalators, or ramps due to the age of the building/structure. Steps can be steep and uneven. Based on crowds and traffic, order of visits may be changed. You may have to walk a moderate distance to transfer to coach stations and airport terminals. Time spent on the road and traveling can be long, so you will need to be prepared for stretches of down time in between destinations.

Wheelchair access at many sites is limited. A fold-up wheelchair may be able to be stored on the bus but requires prior arrangements. Guests must be able to transfer from their chair to the transportation. Guides/drivers are not allowed to lift or push wheelchairs, so guests requiring physical assistance must travel with a companion who can assist. Motorized wheelchairs and scooters cannot be accommodated on this group program.

Airfare

Included airfare is from select airports only. To inquire about a different airport, please contact your Personal Vacation Manager.

Enrichment Journeys is committed to providing remarkable experiences at extraordinary value. As a result, airlines and routes are selected to maximize that value and may involve multiple stops and extended layovers versus non-stop or direct flights. Passengers wishing to utilize specific carriers, direct/non-stop flights, Business Class upgrades, or to extend their time in any of our beginning or ending destination cities may do so by contacting Enrichment Journeys and inquiring about the Custom Airfare Program. There is a $100 per person charge for this service, however this charge will be applied toward any flights or upgrades you choose to purchase. The $100 charge must be paid prior to receiving a custom air quote.

Passport and Visa Requirements

To travel internationally, you must have a passport in good condition, and it must be valid for at least 6 months after the last day of your trip. Visa requirements change frequently and for various reasons. As a result, our Personal Vacation Managers are not always able to provide visa information. The best way to obtain up-to-date information regarding visa requirements is to visit the official US government website for Americans traveling abroad, Travel.State.Gov (Canadian citizens should visit https://travel.gc.ca/, for all other countries please visit your government website or local embassy), which details specific information on the countries you would like to visit, including visa requirements. You may also use a third-party visa service, such as Expedited Travel. These services require an additional service fee but make the process of applying for a visa much simpler.

Customizing Your Journey

To extend a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your Journey, please speak to a Personal Vacation Manager for assistance in making those arrangements.

If you are interested in customizing your Journey, pairing it with a different cruise, or arranging a private tour for your party, you may be interested in our Private Journeys program. You can learn more about this program here, or speak to a Personal Vacation Manager for more information.
