Itinerary Details

Day 1 – Arrive Copenhagen

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. After check-in, you’ll have time to get settled in before joining your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner.

Note: If you wish to spend more time in Copenhagen, ask your Personal Vacation Manager about the optional hotel extension—which will add one or two nights to your hotel stay.

Day 2 – Copenhagen

Today we will enjoy a panoramic city tour to familiarize yourself with Copenhagen and visit its top sights. Our first stop will be at the famous Little Mermaid statue, a symbol of the city which was first unveiled in 1913 as a tribute to the story’s Danish Author, Hans Christian Andersen. You will also get views of Townhall, Our Saviors Church and Amalienborg Palace, which has been a royal residence since 1794. We will then continue to Christiansborg Palace for an in-depth tour of the royal quarters. You’ll walk the Royal Reception Rooms, still used by the Queen to greet her guests, and the Royal Kitchen, which boasts one of Europe’s largest collections of copperwares. You’ll venture underground to explore the ruins of the 12th century castle from which the current palace was built upon, then reemerge to visit the Royal Stables and the horses still used for ceremonial events.

We will then sit down at a local restaurant for lunch before continuing to our last stop, Rosenborg Castle and Treasury. The Castle was built as a summerhouse in 1606 for King Christian IV and is a prime example of Dutch Renaissance architecture. Today, it houses the Crown Jewels of the Danish monarchy, as well as other Danish art treasures. Here you’ll examine the Royal Regalia, including the crown King Christian IV wore during his coronation in 1596 and the current Queen’s collection of tiaras, orbs and scepters, dating back to Queen Sophia Magdalene’s reign in 1746. You’ll feel enriched with your newfound knowledge of Denmark and its Royal Family. After your visit, you’ll be transferred back to the hotel by coach and enjoy the remainder of the evening at your leisure

Day 3 – Copenhagen

Today you will have the day at leisure to explore Copenhagen on your own. We recommend visiting Tivoli Gardens, a beloved cultural landmark founded in 1843 that is just around the corner from your hotel. Its unique blend of enchanting gardens, historic architecture, and thrilling rides creates a magical atmosphere that has captivated visitors for generations. You could also visit one of the many museums, take a boat ride along the canal, or book an excursion to one of the various castles outside the city. The day is yours to do as you wish! Your guide will be available in the morning to answer questions and provide recommendations.

Day 4 – Copenhagen to London

This morning, we will transfer to the airport for our flight to London. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel and enjoy some free time in the evening.

Day 5 – London

Today you will have the day at leisure to explore London on your own. Perhaps you’ll explore London’s world-class museums such as the British Museum and the Tate Modern, or marvel at iconic landmarks like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. After breakfast on board, disembark and set off with your local guide on an exclusive shore excursion in Porto, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled along the picturesque Douro River, Porto features a rich history, stunning architecture and the production of world-renowned port wine. The cityscape is a delightful mix of old and new, with contemporary architecture blending seamlessly with historic landmarks. We will first visit the city center, viewing some of the highlights such as the Clerigos Tower, an iconic Baroque bell tower, and the Sao Bento Train Station, renowned for its breathtaking azulejo tile panels depicting historical scenes and serving as a cultural and architectural landmark in the city. Then, for the highlight of our tour, we will experience the winemaking tradition of Porto by visiting a traditional Port Wine Cellar established in 1820 for a tour, tasting and lunch. Learn about the region’s rich history and commitment to traditional winemaking methods during a tour of the cellars, then taste for yourself the exceptional quality of each aged tawny and vintage port varieties at a tasting. We will then lunch in the main dining room, situated in the heart of a magnificent 19th-century wine cellar and surrounded by 3,200 oak barrels where the fine port wines are aged.

More Information

What to Know Before You Go

Physical Activity

The land portion of the trip should be considered relaxed. Please note that guided tours may include a considerable amount of walking, while free time allows you to explore on your own at your own pace.

Enrichment Journeys will do everything in our power to ensure comfort through our third-party providers, including air-conditioned buses and comfortable accommodations where applicable. However, some areas cannot be accessed by coach, so our drivers will get you as close to sites as is legally allowed. Sensible, rubber-soled walking shoes are strongly recommended. Historical sites often do not have elevators, escalators, or ramps due to the age of the building/structure. Steps can be steep and uneven. Based on crowds and traffic, order of visits may be changed. You may have to walk a moderate distance to transfer to coach stations and airport terminals. Time spent on the road and traveling can be long, so you will need to be prepared for stretches of down time in between destinations.

Wheelchair access at many sites is limited. A fold-up wheelchair may be able to be stored on the bus but requires prior arrangements. Guests must be able to transfer from their chair to the transportation. Guides/drivers are not allowed to lift or push wheelchairs, so guests requiring physical assistance must travel with a companion who can assist. Motorized wheelchairs and scooters cannot be accommodated on this group program.

Airfare

Included airfare is from select airports only. To inquire about a different airport, please contact your Personal Vacation Manager.

Enrichment Journeys is committed to providing remarkable experiences at extraordinary value. As a result, airlines and routes are selected to maximize that value and may involve multiple stops and extended layovers versus non-stop or direct flights. Passengers wishing to utilize specific carriers, direct/non-stop flights, Business Class upgrades, or to extend their time in any of our beginning or ending destination cities may do so by contacting Enrichment Journeys and inquiring about the Custom Airfare Program. There is a $100 per person charge for this service, however this charge will be applied toward any flights or upgrades you choose to purchase. The $100 charge must be paid prior to receiving a custom air quote.

Passport and Visa Requirements

To travel internationally, you must have a passport in good condition, and it must be valid for at least 6 months after the last day of your trip. Visa requirements change frequently and for various reasons. As a result, our Personal Vacation Managers are not always able to provide visa information. The best way to obtain up-to-date information regarding visa requirements is to visit the official US government website for Americans traveling abroad, Travel.State.Gov (Canadian citizens should visit https://travel.gc.ca/, for all other countries please visit your government website or local embassy), which details specific information on the countries you would like to visit, including visa requirements. You may also use a third-party visa service, such as Expedited Travel. These services require an additional service fee but make the process of applying for a visa much simpler.

Customizing Your Journey

To extend a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your Journey, please speak to a Personal Vacation Manager for assistance in making those arrangements.

If you are interested in customizing your Journey, pairing it with a different cruise, or arranging a private tour for your party, you may be interested in our Private Journeys program. You can learn more about this program here, or speak to a Personal Vacation Manager for more information.
